Clive Pushed Aside - The Weiss Era Begins at Sony BMG

I guess this week has been so busy that Monday’s news slipped past me.  Clive Davis is being pushed aside.  Talk about the end of an era.  Perhaps we’re getting closer to the start of a new one.

The “new guy” at Sony BMG sounds like he’s on the right track:

Mr. Weiss, 49, who also personally oversees many of his artists’ creative decisions, has enjoyed his share of chart success with acts like Chris Brown and T-Pain. But he also has a reputation for tightly managing expenses, and being savvier about the digital revolution.

Now that a top 100 record averages a paltry 7,000 units sold in 1 week, I’d say someone who is adept at “managing expenses” is the kind of guy you need in that seat.  It’s not exactly the “managing profits” kind of job that it used to be.
