Resnikoff Knows These Are Interesting Times

“May you live in interesting times.”

Though some believe this saying to be some sort of a curse, perhaps no other quote has conjured up so many images of vast opportunity for me.

Anyway. Paul Resnikoff penned a brilliant screed in Resnikoff’s Parting Shot. Yes, it’s true… the major labels no longer can survive the way they are. Victims of disruptive change.  We know. We get it.

How they will adapt is the best part, as far as I’m concerned.  Lots of choice nuggets in here, but I like this one the best:

And this game is just beginning.  Indeed, a minority of companies have successfully survived disruptive transformations in the past, though survival is never, ever a pretty process.  And transformed labels can only happen through increased experimentation - and a willingness to walk away from failures.

Ah yes.  What’s this about the fun just beginning?  I like that.
