San Francisco In Ruins, May 28, 1906
I got a few compliments regarding the San Francisco in 1851 photo I posted earlier, so I thought I would share one of my other favorites in case you haven’t seen it before.
This is an aerial photo shot from about 2000 feet above the San Francisco Bay in May of 1906, just over a month after the great earthquake of 1906. Click on the photo above to get a high resolution version of the image, and you’ll be amazed at the detail.
It’s really cool to see a rather under-developed Russian Hill and Telegraph Hill, and spotting the rows of large sail-powered ships docked on the wharf always trips me out. You can also see the temporary military barracks set up along the Embarcadero, just to the north of the Ferry Building.
